現行架構的DRAM的性能將無法滿足處理器的需要

  微軟之所以加入HMCC,是因為正在考慮如何對應很可能會成為個人電腦和計算機性能提升的“內存瓶頸”問題。內存瓶頸是指隨著微處理器的性能通過多核化不斷提升,現行架構的DRAM的性能將無法滿足處理器的需要。如果不解決這個問題,就會發生即使購買計算機新產品,實際性能也得不到相應提升的情況。與之相比,如果把基于TSV的HMC應用于計算機的主存儲器,數據傳輸速度就能夠提高到現行DRAM的約15倍,因此,不只是微軟,微處理器巨頭美國英特爾等公司也在積極研究采用HMC。

  其實,計劃采用TSV的并不只是HMC等DRAM產品。按照半導體廠商的計劃,在今后數年間,從承擔電子設備輸入功能的CMOS傳感器到負責運算的FPGA和多核處理器,以及掌管產品存儲的DRAM和NAND閃存都將相繼導入TSV。如果計劃如期進行,TSV將擔負起輸入、運算、存儲等電子設備的主要功能。
